3.  Winter Hymns

Sands dripping down from our feet
right beneath the pier’s edge where we were first to meet
and I caught you once but you let me down twice
I don’t know how

And there’s a place we would all go to sing
we’d gather round the old town church to hear those bells ring
I’ll never forget those days
when I was worthy of your love

I promise I won’t make a sound
cos I figure you no longer want me around
and I know that the days will pass and soon we’ll be rid of these things
so let soft words be spoken and join in these winter hymns

Crows flying out with old wings
bated breath with lungs that barely have the strength to sing
and I fought you once but you let me win twice
I don’t know why

And there’s a chapter that I keep on trying to read
But the pages stick and crumble where your fingers used to be
I’ll never forget your hands
cos they were always pushing me

I promise I won’t make a sound
cos I figure you no longer want me around
and I know that the days will pass and soon we’ll be rid of these things

Just let us grow
your patience was lost in the sea
just don’t go
and all this darkness will come
my heart is in stormy weather
and the pain is all I have for now
and I’m homebound
